Mums

[Smart Red]

Ducks, you are ahead of me. I didn't get my new mums planted in time, so I have them over-wintering in the sun room. I have had pretty good luck getting mums to behave as the perennials they are as long as they get plenty of rooting time in the fall.

You know, I seem to remember, way back in one of my former lives, planting florist mums with some success. If they remained alive all winter, they did need to be kept short and bushy, in order to have lots of blooms, and not have tall gangly stems. I also remember someone telling me their yellow mum reverted back to bronze after a few years. Maybe this could have reseeded and all the original yellow have died out?
Wouldn't it be neat to be able to grow all the different kinds of mums you can get at the florist? Big football mums, and spider mums, and those red rovers and daisy pompoms. I used to have a business friend who had a mum greenhouse. He supplied all the area florists with very fresh, sturdy mums. I didn't learn anything from him, by the way.

I did plant a few,if they didnt came back oh well I tried. Of coruse if they come back I will kick myself for not planting all ofthem.

I came across a marker that I'd missed and these WERE Hardy Mums that I planted. I think 2012's were, too, put didn't get a good enough root system going before the freezes.
