@Bluberry Acres thank your for your kind compliments . These ponds have been a source of happiness. The fish are friendly and pop up for food. It’s fun to see them all doing well. They are just regular goldfish . I had fancy koi in the pond for years , after 10 years something ate them all overnight. Even a catfish and pocoustumus or however it’s spelled. They were all huge. 6-8”. It’s funny how we humans even become attached to fish as pets.

My water garden has sadly gone downhill in the past few weeks. It’s been super hot with blazing sun, and the water hyacinths just roasted to a crisp and died. The water lilies and lotus seem to be putting out new leaves, which quickly turn yellow brown and die off. I added some fertilizer which helped the lilies but not the hyacinths. I’ll have to do a clean up this week (which is supposed to be cooler) and try to get some new plants.

I’m starting up the container pond again this week. Lotus tubers bought on FB Marketplace for $15 each to start with. Hopefully I can add some other plants soon!

The seller recommended 4” of ordinary topsoil. I made a nice mud at the bottom of the pot…

I gently sunk them in the mud (there was about an inch of water on top), used some gravel to weigh down the tuber…

…and topped it off with water. There are some “mosquito dunks” pieces as well. The leaves were already forming on the tubers and should pop up soon.

You should be good to go. With that size water container this season maybe in another a larger container will be needed as the root grows larger. They like soggy wet clay soils under water levels.,Keep water still water lilies don’t like movement. Also there are some efficient fertilizers made especially for water lilies and they are slow release to keep the water lily’s happy .
