My dentist knows I like to garden. She called me last night, she said her chives where flowering and wanted to know if the flowers where edible. All my gardening is with flowers, I had no idea. Are chive flowers edible, if so how do you use them.

They are essentially the same as garlic scapes but I think I like chives better. I copied the stuff below from an online site. I generally just eat them raw myself, sort of a snack when I'm in the garden and before anything else is ready to snack on.

Are they edible? Very much so. There are many things you can do with chive blossoms, the easiest of which is to pull the flower heads apart and use them as a garnish or to add a delicate onion flavor into savory dishes like soups, cream sauces, potatoes, and egg dishes. Lately we've been taking the purple flowers off the head of the chive and mixing them into goat cheese for a pretty, simple spread. So next time you're thinking of dumping them into your compost, think again.
