This was in our neighbor's yard where we used to live. When my DD was little she would go and smell the flowers and the neighbor said he would dig it up and bring us the "rose" for my DD. She calls it a rose, but it is not. We have had it here for 2 years and still do not know the name.

I love them, they grow on their own roots and are almost indestructible. One of the few roses that can handle salt. Great for beach or along roads that get salted in winter.

Thanks to all. I guess the leaves fooled me. I thought I was going to get an exotic name of something unusual, but looked at the flowers closer and smelling them I should have know it was a type of rose. I used to pick wild roses along the side of the road in Kansas and they smelled just like this. It has sure grown in the last 2 years.
