Indeed, not much "baffling" about it. We've been poisoning them for a long time. I think that is why my bees have done so well in my area without my interference--most of our land is naturalized and untouched. There is no big farming around here. Nothing on the clover, blackberry blossoms or goldenrod to poison them.

This sounds rehearsed to me:

"Bayer - the German chemical giant that makes many of the neo-nicotinoids used in Europe - insisted its products did not harm bees.

A spokesman said it was difficult to comment on unpublished studies and that it was impossible to look at the methods used by the researchers.

'I'm sure there are some very interesting effects Dr Pettis has seen in a laboratory, but in reality, when you get to what's important to everybody which is what happens in the field, you don't see these things happening,' he said.

'Bees are very ,very important insects to BayerCropScience and we recognise their importance.'

Gee, poison hurts bees... who'd a thunk it??? I think it speaks to their amazing immune systems- that we have any bees left at all!!

I still get mad about the comment -

"...in reality, when you get to what's important to everybody which is what happens in the field, you don't see these things happening."

This is a bold face lie. First, the bees are dying... period. Second, he is speaking as if this is not important, and only the immediate production of food is.

People are panicking that in 2050 there will not be enough fresh water and food to go around. I think what we are doing now is what is going to make that happen. People in the US are fat and lazy and wasteful. We have MORE then enough food, yet we just throw it away rather then preserve it. We eat and buy MORE then me could ever need. We just don't want to change our ways, so now we are destroying the world with our selfish manners.
