New to Arizona. Know nothing!!

I would like to plat some flowers and such in my flowers beds. We live in Winslow AZ. I work 40+ hours a week in Flagstaff. What types of flowers can I plant, that are hardy and stand the cold for this area?
Thank you. I am originally from Florida and had been living in Kentucky for 20 years so I am totally ignorant on what will grow for this area.....

LadyV, I didn't look at this at first because so many Arizona people live in Phoenix and Tuscon . . . not in Winslow !

Just like those who have responded so far, I don't live in AZ but the climate here is not a whole lot different than say - southwestern Colorado.

In fact, Flagstaff would not be a great deal different because it is at nearly 7,000 feet. Winslow has more summer heat than Flagstaff since it is about 2,000 feet lower in elevation. Still high tho'! And, probably not much like Tuscon and Phoenix, whatever the case.

Arborday.org tells us that Winslow's hardiness zone is 7. They are quite noncommittal about Flagstaff however - "Zones 5 - 8" they say !

Okay, I think we can be fairly safe in saying it isn't likely to be zone 8. Flagstaff has about 22 inches of precipitation each year which is more than we've got here and WAY more than Winslow with only 8 inches! You need to see if Flagstaff won't share a little of that water with you ! (Anyway this is all in Wikipedia under "climate" for those cities.)

Annual flowers for this summer? I'd say petunias, snapdragons, salvia and zinnias should be good choices. Perennials that should be okay thru your winters -- gaillardia, coreopsis, and the perennial salvias seem like they should be good choices. But, why don't you check out High Country Gardens in Santa Fe? I bet they would be a source for ideas and plants.
