Funny, 15-20 years ago I used to see worms everywhere on the roads and in the gutters with the early Spring thaw rains. For the past 4-5 years, I haven't seen them in those numbers at all.

I moved 2 years ago to a place where someone had a dog, and had been broadcasting poison to kill fleas. No worms. Now, I'm beginning to see some finally as I won't poison all the bugs in the whole yard on the off chance I'll also kill what I want dead. This is likely why you don't see them like you used to after rains. That, plus they need something to eat. They love leaves.

Good for you @galanie isn't it amazing how worms come back after being poisoned out of existence? I always deep littered my chicken coop and run with lots of leaves. I dug it out and would find worms in the lower layers, which went to the garden.
