I wouldn't spend $15,000 on an old sick dog, I would put the poor thing out of its misery and spend a couple hundred on another dog. And there is absolutely no way I would put a dog ahead of my children no matter how much I loved the dog. That said, their problems are not your problems. Do not get caught in the middle of husband's deception. As a friend, sit down with Ann and tell her it is time to let the dog go. As a friend, offer to take care of the dog's last days. Bury the dog in a pretty place and plant a tree on top of it. Name the tree after the dog and put a bench by the tree so she can visit her dog/tree.
