Yesterday I made some Oatmeal Lavendar soap.

I "tweeked" the label Design that Vfem made for me....I really liked the design she came up with!
Here is the label I plan to use for this soap.

My son has very sensitive skin (it gets really bad in the winter) so we are thinking about trying goats milk soap to see if that helps. When you are up and selling, let me know I would like to try some out on him.

Are you doing this by the "melt and pour" method, or are you mixing it up from scratch with lye and fats? If you're doing that, where are you getting lye from? I'm gathering ingredients to make some soaps to use at home and I can't find anywhere local that has lye.

I am doing it from scratch. I got the lye at the hardware store. The first lye I got was at a local "True Value" Hardware store. This last bottle I got at ACE Hardware. It is in the plumbing section, with drain cleaners. Cost about 5.00 or less for 16 oz. My recipe calls for 3oz per batch. That gives me about 5 baches, or 50 bars/molds of soap.


That stuff can burn your skin off for sure!! The soap I made almost two weeks ago is not so horrible now. But I think I will wait at least a month before attemping to use any of it, or give it as a gift to anyone.

I suppose I could give it to someone, as long as they promise not to use it for a few more weeks.

Of course, If they are like me... I still have some handmade soap in my dresser drawers that is over 5 years old now. It still smells very nice.
