hello! i was wondering what was on everyone's to-do lists. i'm trying to think of what i need to do in each season and break it down like that. so what are some things on your fall list? winter list? spring list? summer list?
kinda a broad question i know. hoping to get the most answers that-a-ways. :)
thanks!

Well, OGGirl, I just got back with my last load of "sticks" from the cutting garden. These are the posts and cross boards from the trellises. The 4" sprinkler pipes were picked up and stored before making the run home with the boards. Those are now stacked on a pallet by the garage & covered with cedar boards by way of a roof.

That's it !

I am now officially done with garden clean-up :)! I will not run the mower over things in the veggie this year. Not only is it hard on the mower but everything has been either whacked down with a corn knife or clipped off with lopping shears. The little veggie garden has either been tilled or the beds have been dug out and frost-killed plants have been buried. The dahlia roots have been dug - about 10 days ago, I guess.

The potatoes are still in the garage and I have not wanted to risk their freezing so I've run an electric heater in there for a few hours on the coldest mornings . The basement room, now 90% filled with dahlias and onions is still at 53 so I can't carry the spuds back down there just yet. I'm kind of behind the 8 ball for potato storage until the room cools down and that garage is real cold when it's 20 outdoors . . .

Both freezers are completely full. The green tomatoes have been ripening too fast and the last of the peppers need to come in out of the carport fridge. (I kinda don't know why they haven't froze in there already :p.) No reason to leave them any longer - 1 more batch of spaghetti sauce and a Spanish rice casserole. Or, we will forget about generating more sauce and just freeze some casseroles :)! We should be able to keep up with the remaining tomato-ripening with omelet-making. ha!

My to do list consists of making sure all my fall/winter prep is complete. Need to have the neighbor till up the garden yet. If if doesn't get done soon it'll have to wait till spring.

The garden is cleaned and plowed, SO, I think I am ready to plan for next year. I do want to plow another place for corn that is close the the house so we can put up electric fence, since we didn't get but one meal of corn this year because something else got it first. I also need to clean off the flower beds!! Dread that! I still have the bed next to a fence that I have never got under control since moving here 2 years ago. Got my work cut out for me!

My to do list seems to always have things on it. :( Living in the south you can pretty much do most things year round which is unfortunate, because I'd so like a break sometime without feeling guilty about taking a day off! I'm just not the kind of person that can sit idle when things need doin'!

Today my dad came over and we cut down a tree that I HATED - it was a Japanese Talon or Chinese Talon, not sure. I had no idea about trees 12 years ago when I moved here and all I wanted were fast growers. Then I found out that these trees are VERY invasive and take over in our state. I know I pull a gazillion tiny trees from my herb garden in the spring and I wasn't about to put up with that again. We also started on the greenhouse - going to send pictures of the progress - not going to be easy! Now I just have to weed the garden, finish the chicken coop, paint my barn/shed and the coop, make a chicken feeder, finish burning my "burn pile" since the burn ban has been lifted, rake up the 5 foot of pine straw in the yard for mulch, and more that I can't and don't want to think of right now.

Sorry for the ramble. :/

Hey Joan, sounds like you need to move north! Around here it's about 7 or 8 months of frenzied activity and 4 or 5 to get fat and out of shape before the next one! :)

I wouldn't have a problem with that except for the cold and snow.

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure that the cold and snow is what makes us take time off from outdoor gardening...I don't know, I'll check on that and get back to ya.
