Pellets in wood stove?

Wifey thought we should see if Pellets can be burned in our wood stoves. If so it might be a good idea to have a ton on hand.

We built a basket of expanded metal, using a Amo Can as a form~About 8" X 12-14" . Filling the basket about 3/4 full gives a 2-3 hour burn. The fire is hot and clean.
Today I will burn exclusively pellets to see how much of a bag it will take, morning to night.

Are the pellets easier for you to come by than wood? It looks like it's working well for you!

Good morning, Yes and no, we have plenty of wood but haven't cut enough fire wood as of now.
Wifey thought it would be nice to have a ton of pellets on hand during winter.

Yes, we often use pellets with our corn burner. The small compressed wood 'pills' are easier to start then the corn, but the corn burns longer and slower at a higher heat. We have never burned pellets alone since corn is cheaper than the pellets when we get it from a neighboring farmer.

Nyboy, did you catch PhilaGarderer's pellet/pallet clue. I would love to get some free wooden pallets for projects around here that I have planned. Most around here are made from oak and will last a long time. Many local businesses are now finding ways of recycling their pallets, so there are not as many available for scroungers such as I am.
