Hi there! 
This is one of my most favourite cakes -- I have never quite decided whether it's a tart or a cake......?! Many years ago I baked it over & over again trying to reproduce the taste of a boyfriends childhood. Unfortunately I never quite managed it.........................!!!!
But I grew to enjoy it. Unfortunately this year my plum tree has only one plum -- we had high winds & heavy rain at blossom time. I will have to buy them at the farmers market. I have made it with damsons & that was sublime!
Especially slightly warm with clotted cream ( an English speciality)! I think it is traditionally made with Switzen (sp?) plums in Germany -- I used to be able to buy them here all those years ago -- but no longer! It is not a very sweet cake -- I like things on the tart side of sweet so you might like to have some powdered sugar ready to sprinkle on the top.
