Picked Our First Ever Watermelon Today - And It Was a Doozy!

..and delicious too. The variety is Charleston (85 days) , and it was very trouble free.

And look at the color!

Even though the trend is towards smaller size fruits these days, this one reminds me of the monster size watermelons of my childhood.

We had this growing on our front steps. There are two more, along with about 5 Moon & Stars. We're going to a family reunion next weekend, so hopefully we'll be able to take a few with us.

I did the smaller ones last year and also decided I wanted big ones this year like my mom used to plant. I got georgia rattlesnake. Unfortunately I was a little late planting and we just havent had enough heat this summer. Im jealous
