Original question: plant ID: There are plenty of perennials that I cannot recognize ... maybe, after they bloom, I will recognize them. I generally know what it is that I want growing in the vegetable garden. What I may not be able to put names to are weeds.
Even if they are back every year, I don't much like thinking about them and will enjoy putting them out of my mind during the off-season. Here is a site that I have come back to time and again for the same weeds!
Virginia Tech Weed Identification -- Even just browsing through the alphabet works fairly quickly. This source is thousands of miles away but it goes to show you that these weeds torment gardeners right across the continent!
Truly wild plants, I like using state native plant sites. Probably, every state has more than one university and non-profit site. Google the state name, perhaps with a site:.org or site:.edu in the search box. Domestic perennial plants, you may have a problem. There may be many, many, MANY domestic species and varieties within a species to search through. I've used a UK site for seedlings but can't think of it right now.
Lines of latitude and sunsets: Richmond Virginia is at 37° North. Cork and Dublin are at about 52° and 53° North latitude. That's like Calgary and Edmonton Alberta. Here I am at about 48° North. That's bad enuf!
