Potato question...

Amazing what poisonous things deer will eat. And seem to get no ill effect.

Thistle, it is so funny that you posted that...when I went upstairs last night, I said to Dh- well, we can always gift them to friends and family! This is kind of an experimental field that we are planting in. This is the first year we have plowed it. It was my wildflower field previously. It looks a little clay like- so maybe it won't even work. Time will tell!

Often wild animals will eat plants they wouldn't ordinarily touch to cure a physical problem. I think ancient man learned herbal medicine by watching the animals.

Damn.... I planted 1 lb each of French Fingerlings and Yukon Golds, and they're taking up too much room in my wee garden. There are only 2 of us, and I don't have a good plan for storage after harvest (it's too hot and humid for a "root cellar" in my basement...... tho I may try to bodge something together), so having a limited supply wasn't a terrible thing...

I can't imagine having to plan for 48 lbs for a year's supply! :)

Hey, Joz not sure if you do pressure canning- but we love canning our fingerlings. Great for those nights, when you don't want to wait for potatoes to cook! I am not planning on canning this crop!! If I can't keep them in the basement- so be it!

Having only put in 2 lbs of seed, I can't imagine I'll need to be overly concerned with long-term storage. :)

Good to know tho, re the pressure canning. I've not started canning yet, but it's on The List.

I bet the local food bank would be thrilled to take anything you want to part with off your hands Lesa.

Good point... I have shared garden veggies with them before. I better not count my potatoes before they hatch...grow!
