That is brilliant!!
But Do they deteriorate before the potatoes are ready?
Sorry can't find the link BUT I saw a program where they interviewed a nursery that sells 3 to 6' tree/bushes, sets of 4, sold to be a living fence. They ship it in a cardboard box.
UNDERGROUND the cardboard takes 60 days to break down. Above ground it takes much longer. I dropped a cardboard box last fall in the bed where I had a bad potato harvest. It is above ground.
Box is still there.
Fyi...

Well I'm pretty happy with the harvest. Quite a few small ones. But overall I have a decent amount. I'm going to do a little mini experiment and replant a couple of the small ones that still have roots and see if I can get at least one more Harvest before winter. If not I'll save some of these little ones for the spring. I'm pretty happy with the process overall I think I'm going to wait till next week to harvest the white potatoes next.

You know what is really tasty with those small red potatoes? We like to cut them in half, soak in a mixture of freshly squeezed lemon, olive oil, salt n pepper. Then grill them to go along side of grilled salmon soaked in the same mixture with tartar sauce! Oh boy! 😋
