Red, my outside tomatoes have been in since the tenth. They still look exactly like they did when I put them in. We have come really close to frost a few times, but just missed it. A thirty degree temperature swing is not unusual for us at any time of year. I'd like to smack the guy who thought up: I love New York.

He obviously was NOT a gardener. I am sure New York has its good points, but the growing season is not one of them. On the other hand, every growing zone has its own set of problems. I'm contented to keep trying to deal with the weather here.

It was 53°f here this morning, Jack. I could hardly believe it! Yep, I left some tomatoes out and, if'n I've got time, they will be planted in the garden, tomorrow.
It hasn't been the cold that slowed the harding-off. There has been some wind but it's the direct sunlight. I've only got the one, small sweet spot in the backyard. Every place else is either 100% sun or 100% shade. Where they will go in the garden is 100% sun (& too much wind). The late May weather outdoors has been kind, tho ...
The hoop houses tend towards exactly the same temperature as outdoors, by morning. I wish it wasn't true but that's how it goes. If it's 35° by 7am, it will be within a couple degrees of that in either hoop house if I haven't put a heater in there. My alternative is to crowd things in the greenhouse with its furnace and thermostat. Luckily, it's been a couple of weeks since I've had to be concerned about any of that.

Red I willn't live anywhere else. Ny has more museums then any other state, best theater in the world, and a fall that would take your breath away. We have been having crazy weather last few years.

I was not discing New York. It has many advantages over Wisconsin. Just saying the weather is not one of its biggest attractions. The closest I get to culture is a 75 mile drive into Chicago. Not New York, but it's not half bad.

We had a frost and freeze warning last night. I had to cover everything planted outdoors, except the onions, garlic and annuals. Tonight the low 40s are expected. Anyone remember Al Capp's Lower Slobovia? I think I know where he got the idea.
