I just planted 9 raspberry roots that a friend gave me. They are pretty hardy as they sat in a bucket of water for at least a month before they found their way into the soil. 6 of them now have new leaves. In my area, zone 3 to 4, many people have a thornless variety that do extremely well. In fact they are dug up and given away regularly as they are so prolific.

If I were doing a berry farm I would go for a thornless variety... why endure pain??? and I had a relative die from a berry prick once, way back when... actually a berry farm has been on my mind too. raspberries and blueberries and currents.
