Listed is most of my effort of preserving produce for use during the 2012/2013 Winter season. A litre of various juices per day is about my typical consumption, often mixed in the drinking glass. My small attempt to avoid the commercial food supply, which I consider to be much flawed. Efforts are made to improve and add different foods with new inputs. Details are in my Garden Journal. http://durgan.org/2011/ Right click on your mouse to open the links in a new window, so you can return back to the forum by closing the picture window.

Wow! That's quite a list and lots of great pics. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the name "pilot" bread. Can you tell us a little more about it. Why is it called "pilot"?

Do you make all of your meals as juice or do you eat fresh veggies from the garden either raw or cooked?

Pilot bread is hardtack, used by trappers and sailors in rthe old days. I read the name in a book and thought it was great. It keeps forever if cooked long enough to remove all the moisture. Some insipid commercial version is sold, similar to crackers,, and apparently is common in Alaska. My version was designed, since I got disgusted with the commercial versions of bread being sold. Also I make my own whole grain flour from the grains, since the commercial stuff is emasculated by removing a portion of the whole grain to improve shelf life.

I eat the typical food periodically on festive and social occasions. I make my own meals. For breakfast I always have Natto or soy beans, and a bowl of large flake oats with skim milk. I have been eating the soy beans for probably 40 years. I utilize a lot of nuts cooked ansd all the beans. One patty of pilot bread is very filling. For vitamins and minerals the "juice" is utilized. I also eat a baked potato daily served with butter. I do use a bit of black strap molasses primarily for iron, since I do not eat much meat, and then mostly lamb and some shellfish from New Zealand. Also I am always looking for new foods to increase the variety. I eat the fresh fruit and vegetables in season. Seldom eat eggs, and don't have sugar, honey or any sweetener in the house except for black strap no sulphur molasses. I maintain my weight of 180 with BMI of 24.

After much experimentation, choosing raw or cooked, I arrived at the conclusion that cooked is much better, since I believe the food is digested more readily. I am also of the opinion seeds without being pulverized should be ingested in small amounts.

I am not fanatical about it, just looking for a simple food, fast to prepare without additives. All it takes is a mindset revamp.

My condiments are vinegar, soy sauce, and butter.
