don't know about anyone else but when i took home economics i was always told to not cut towards your palm/hand or any other part of your body. i worked about 6+ years in a restaurant & was taught the same! if schools no longer teach this in home economics & tell kids that this should be common sense then those that do this are doomed to their stupidity.

Buy them green and hard as a rock. Place in a paper bag and roll it up. The avocado will ripen in a day or two.
