I've been considering getting a food dehydrator but need advice on the best one. I'd like it to be American made. That China #### just falls apart. Any recommendations from those using one?

I have an American Harvester that has worked well for me the past 20+ years. I haven't used it day in and day out as many do. I recently purchased an Excaliber that I really do like. I have used it much more often then the AH.

I don't have any recommendations on brand, but for type make sure it is a forced air type. I have had both still air and forced air and the difference is considerable. I would never get another still air type.

I have a Nesco, forced air one. It's not huge, but I didn't have to mortgage the house to buy it either. :D I like it real well.
I just looked at it and alas, it's made in China.:/

Smart Red, why did you purchase another one if your American Harvester still works? Mary

Good question, Mary.

Even with twice the drying trays (purchased separately) added to my AH, the new one is bigger and easier to clean. I intend to do more dehydrating and less canning or freezing so I got the Excaliber. The American Harvester is going to my DIL.

And both are forced air as Kassaundra suggests.

Very timely post! I was hoping to get a dehydrator for Christmas. Santa must have lost the request. :( So I am going to treat myself when I can save up. Thanks for the recommendations.

Thanks for the recommedations.I've been around but too busy getting the last of my cool weather veggies in the ground. I'm already harvesting Simpson lettuce and Giant Red mustard. My purple broccoli and cauliflower are coming along nicely but not heading up yet.my cabbage and something else I lost track of (forgot to label the flat) are ready to plant when I get a cloudy day.
