My neighbour had asked me about a flowering plant he received as a gift, which he thought were called red trumpets. I looked in the Western Garden book, but no luck. Any ideas?

Is it a vine or bush?!

Here's the vine we have in NC:

Its red or Orange trumpet vine and it thrives on moisture and humidity. It is invasive here and I've been slashing and burning it for 2 years and STILL I am getting over run by new plants coming up in the wood area from old seeds!!! ARGH!!!

This one is a bush and is considered Red Angel's Trumpet

I don't know as much about it, but it also enjoys the humid climate and is a popular choice plant here.

Hope that helps some... I'm sure there are plenty of other possiblities.

Hmmm I will take this over to him. Maybe a pic would help (I haven't yet seen it-don't know if it is a vine, bush, whatever). But if it thrives on humidity, it is in for a very tough life here in the desert!
