I ordered some sage seed this year and have been very nervous about getting it to grow because my books say it is hard. Planted them with my helpy helper on Christmas into 2 3"pots and yesterday sprout were everywhere. I put them under the lights last night so I am hoping they continue to do well. Looks like 90-100% germination too. It's my first plants of the year. :weee

Must be very fresh seed. Sage seed stays viable for years but the older it is the harder the shell gets so it's difficult for the water to penetrate. Real old seed can take a year or more to sprout.

I'm not sure the pack just says Sage.

These are some of the seeds I got from "Annie's Heirloom Seeds" and they pride themselves on high germination rate and hardy thriving plants. Their claim is that the open pollenation heirlooms are hardier then hybrids and GMO seeds.

Good news, the sage is looking great. I put most of it outside yesterday to start hardening off so I can give it away. I think I killed to plants. The got shove behind some in a planter and did get water and aren't looking good. I watered them again this morning but if they don't perk up by tomorrow I am pitching them. So I will only have to find home for 19 plants.

Wonderful news! Isn't it great when things work out well!

My sage packet instructions say to direct seed in the ground. I guess the variety I got doesn't transplant well. I hope I have the same kind of results you got.
