Saving squash seeds???

How would I go about it? It's an heirloom type can't remember what kind right now. :caf
Is it better to let the fruit dry on the plant or remove the fruit when it matures???

thanks Tutter, it's mature alright,lol.That squash must weigh 2 or 3 lbs..it's big!!! I'll pick it this morning.

It seems every year I put out plants earlier than before.Rule of thumb is put your plants out around Easter to avoid frost where I live. I really jumped the gun this year,I put all my plants out by the middle/ end of March.
That one squash plant is a monster, I'll have to post some pics of it. It's one of several I have in my leaf compst pile.
