Ok I kind of clipped this from a gas station, it was over grown! :idunno

It is growing as a shrub.

I had to have some cuttings!

Sir, put the clippers down and step away from the plant!

LOL,

You have me stumped on this one; I will wait for further evidence before I render sentencing!

I am going to hear this on the news, mark my words! I can write the book all about how it all got started. :throw

I wish I had my cam with me. The shrub is about 6' around and every tip is covered with these red flowers. As I drove by I thought it was the Flame Tree. On my trip back I just had to have a little. I was kind to the bush and thanked it. :frow

Flame tree is close, but I think you have 'Firespike'.
It is extremely toxic, may cause severe allergic reaction, and is illegal to possess in your state....... of course I am kidding... :p
I know nothing about it, but pretty sure on the ID.
Beautiful bloom, I would have grabbed some too!

Thank you! I will rub a little on Eby's (DW) arm tonight to see if it is safe for me to handle. :gig :somad

I will look around for that name.

I have felt a bit of sympathy for your DW since I started lurking here...:D

I recalled that shrub from searching for shade plants for my daughter to grow when she lived in Texas. Good luck, hope it's a good one!

My poor DH is my look-out while I'm harvesting seeds or cuttings from plants everywhere we go. Yes, I get  !
I never leave home without baggies in my pockets and a shovel in the van. :)
So far I have avoided hand cuffs, but it sure would be nice to have a more cooperative partner in crime!

That is the name for sure, thank you!
Odontonema strictum

It is a great butterfly plant also, bonus.

Eby is still awake so I'll have to wait for that trial. :pop :sick
