South East Asia: Hurricane!

The Philippines had that flooding this summer. Then an earthquake. They don't need any "Super Hurricane."

Then, look to see where it goes - right on into mainland Southeast Asia! You know, a lot of people live in this part of the world behind bamboo walls and under banana leaf roofs.

BBC has just reported that the, now, tropical storm has made landfall in Vietnam.

The Philippines were struck hard and took most of the extreme energy out of the storm. Deaths are reported to be in the thousands.

I just caught a news cast on the Philippines and the devastation from the storm. It was flattened and they were talking about mass graves. How horrible. The survivors need food, water and shelter and they need it now.

At least here, people evacuate further inland and in some areas it is mandatory. A friend of ours had a beach house in Crystal Beach (across a channel from Galveston Island) and everything was flattened by hurricane Ike. Nothing was left, it was eerie. There were a few deaths of people who refused to leave, but most people got the heck out of there all along the coast line.

Does anyone know if help has gotten to the people in the Philippines yet?

I see that the Australian press is saying that the city of Tacloban, population 222,000, has not a single building left standing.
