It is St. Patrick's Day the traditional time to plant peas. Anyone in this group planting peas today? I am planting about 5 different varieties of edible peas. Any tips?

I soaked my pea seeds overnight.

Since we had rain yesterday, I think I am going to wait until tomorrow... but this weekend it is! I love garden fresh peas!

My rooster and head hen looked on so interestedly as I began planting. I'm using a long handled screwdriver and hammering it with a brick to make nice deep holes for pea planting. It works very well. The chickens followed me from hole to hole. I think they sense it is something delicious that I am doing. :>) I'm glad I decided to plant edible peas around their run instead of sweet peas. That way I won't have to worry.

These are the varieties of peas I am planting. It is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow, so I'd better get cracking. I want to get them in the ground before it rains. But it's so windy out. I need to go find my stocking cap.

1. Burpee Dwarf Gray Sugar (Edible, crisp pod)

2. Burpee Green Arrow

3. Burpee Sugar Daddy (Edible Pod)3

4. Burpee Dark-Seeded Early Perfection

5. Another type-- packet label is soaking with peas in another location

Flowering Non-Edible:

Sweet Dreams

Royal Family

Blue

Lavender

Summer Love Mix

Rather unusual for this far north at this time of year, but I'm out in my garden today, digging the weeds out of the west side of the bunny proof veggie garden. I've bought a bunch of snow peas, more than usual and I will probably get a bunch in the ground before the weekend is out. it's 77 today, should probably be about 40 with snow on the ground. Usually I can't plant anything till mid April. Not squandering this opportunity. There isn't even any frost left in the ground! :th

Where are you swampduck? 77 degrees is sure nice weather for this time of year! It's about 53 here, I think, today.

I finally got my edible peas planted. Waiting for the rains to come now. It sprinkled on me a bit.

I also planted Sugar Snap Pole Peas (Ferry-Morse) and BurpeeanaEarly Americana peas.

What a lot of work! Whew! I'm exhausted, but I'm glad I did it.

Now I still have to plant my flowering nonedible sweet peas this afternoon.

Yers, I planted 1 packet of Green Arrow and 1 packet of little Marvels, on opposite sides, using the double row method with a 4' high trellis (netting type) in the middle. I'm different what can i say!

I'll be planting peas on March 30th, it's a better planting date for peas and other above ground plants than the 17th.
Not to confuse anyone but March 30th on today's "new" calendar is March 17th on the Old (Julian) calendar so I'll be right on date.
