Stealth Composting and Sunlight

I know that this isn't a very informative picture but it's difficult to take a picture of a hole in the ground.

I've mentioned my "stealth composting" several times. This is under the wood deck outside of the greenhouse, on the west side. Another stealth composting pit is under a deck on the north side of the chicken coop.

I just wanted to say how well the one with a western exposure does compared to the north side. Really nice stuff I discovered upon tipping that deck outta the way, yesterday!

Okay, how might sunlight benefit the composting when it's hidden beneath a board deck? Well, it must! This is the 7th or 8th year for me to have both. They both receive about the same amount of water. (I have another, full-sun, mostly-above-ground, exposed compost pile that does okay but I have trouble getting water to it.)

North side is not the best and probably about 50% as quick. I'm happy with my west side stealth composting :D.
