Steamer Trunks ... suggestions???

Great find Cane!
Another trick for helping absorb odors is to fill with crumpled newspapers and change out frequently.

My sister uses a product called BriWax to clean up and give a soft glow to old pieces. It's amazing what it does! We brought home an old trunk from my folks that was my moms fathers that she had stored for years in her garden shed. It had leather and brass trim. Sis rubbed BriWax into the entire trunk and it went from an old dried up looking antique, to a thing of beauty with a mellow glow and patina.

This BriWax could be used on the old, cracked and split leather covering? I don't want to try and remove it, I don't think I'd have the patience or skill to get it down to the wood and make it look good. That's why I'm hoping to find a way to use them opened. I don't think the outside will ever be very pretty to look at.

A friend who worked in Antque shop taught me this trick for dirty grimey painted surfaces. Use hand cleaner mechanics use, brand name here is goop. Cover surface with goop then take super fine steel wool 0000 and lightly scrub goop with steel wool then wipe clean with paper towel. I found a fake leather chair in attic and used goop on it could not believe how clean chair came out. Almost fainted when I was told chair was real leather.
