The supermarkets here have carpet steam cleaners you can rent. They do a really good job cleaning rugs.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, my wonderful sis gave me her old Hoover carpet cleaner since they just bought a Rainbow. Mine was broken, although I think I can get it fixed too.
