Store bought versus home grown

My husband has a nervous breakdown every time I break down a buy eggs. It is usually 1-2 dozen a year. But my girls are on strike pretty early this year.

My coop has almost turned into a chicken nudist colony - EVERYONE is molting.
I'm feeding 12 birds and getting nothing but poo.......

That's a mighty tasty looking egg!

Hey Cane ... don't despair ... that copious POO feeds Mt. Rotmore, ( I guess if you clean out the coop and haul it to the Mt. ) which in turn makes your garden grow,( that is if you remember to plant the seeds) later on you harvest a bunch of different crops ( if your aching back doesn't complain too much ) and the excess goes to feed the chickens ( if you can find the coop through the weeds) and since they have grown new shiny feathers (strutting their stuff show offs ) , they will start to lay cackleberries for your daily sunny side up fare just so that you don't have to drive your car ( if you can find your keys) to the store to buy some anemic poor excuse for eggs.

I so miss eggs with flavor...someday again I'll have chickens.

my girls molted early this year. some folks say that means a hard winter, time will tell on that one i guess. i am overrun with eggs again and am feeling very blessed about it. sharing with family and friends

My many hens are taking a break. I found someone in town with an abundance and traded squash for the delicious beauties. I finally gave them a light bulb and they were afraid to go into their house. Silly birds.

I got seven out of seven hens yesterday. That's the first time that's happened for a long time. Four are pullets that will probably lay through the winter. One is a hen that molted early while she was raising her brood and just started back to laying. The other two are about a year and a half old and should start to molt any day. I don't supplement lights so they will soon molt.

Our chickens are moulting too. We have 30+ and getting 5 eggs or so a day. We have a waiting list two weeks long for people wanting to buy them. >.<

I got 2 eggs from my hens this morning. I am embarrassed to tell you how many hens I am feeding to get these 2 delicious eggs. I think they may rebound. I gave them a light a week ago. They were afraid of it!
