As a kid I read Chalotte's web, I thought all pigs where sweet like Wilbur. Then I read Old Yeller couldn't believe how dangerous pigs could be.

Like any animal you choose to raise, the more you know about and understand the animal the easier and safer you will find working with them to be. Dad's pig, Lester D. Pester, was not like Wilber or the boar in Ol' Yeller. And, yes, I remember warnings about staying far away from Uncle John's sow when she had piglets.

They are finally eating cucumbers, but still hate pumpkins most of the time.

Potbellies were developed in Southeast Asia as a way of converting food scraps into pork.They have such friendly personalities though that here in the US they invariably end up as a family pet. It's awfully hard to kill an animal that follows you around like a dog.
