tartar sauce

i am not really a dill pickle eater, but i make a lot of them for other people and for Mom. well the past few months i've decided i love them in certain things and included in that list is tartar sauce. so here is my tartar sauce recipe:

i use a quart of dill pickles,
onion powder,
garlic salt,
lemon juice,
mayo.

the dill pickles are drained and chopped up into small chunks.

i then put the onion powder and garlic salt on there and some lemon
juice and the mayo and stir. i just use enough mayo and lemon juice
to make a sauce but we really like the dill pickle chunks the most so
i don't overdo it with the sauce.

it is quick, easy enough and we like it much better than any other
tartar sauce we've had of the premade kinds. this is now the reason
why i've made an extra two cases of dill pickles for us to use in the
coming year, just for tartar sauce fixins. :)

between the two of us we can eat half a batch of sauce on one meal's
worth of fish sticks and have enough sauce for the leftovers the next
day. no need to run the oven twice...

it's what i'm having for brunch now. :)

That is pretty close to how we make homemade tartar sauce at work during lent. I am pretty sure ours has a dollop of sour cream in it, too. I haven't made it in years; everybody is used to the kraft packets and didn't like change.

That's about how I make tartar sauce, except I use Miracle Whip, instead of mayo.

we have both on hand here, but i like tartar sauce tart and not sweet. in an emergency i could use it. to me, miracle whip is mayo with vinegar and sugar in it to give it the sweet and sour.

Agree. Sour cream is much lighter than mayo.
