In my opinion you would be OK using dirty water from dog bowls and algae wouldn't hurt either. The soil is a great filter.

If you had said that the water contained any chemicals, solvents, insecticides, etc. then a red flag would pop up.

Are you starting to get warm weather these days? Did you have a harsh winter? I spent some time in NSW way back in the 60s and fell in love with that area.

I personally would not pour either water directly on the fruit itself, but neither one should hurt the health of the tree. I imagine you are concerned about the germs from the dog's saliva being in the water. As long as that does not directly touch the fruit, I see absolutely no problem. The algea water should provide some pretty good nutrients as the algea decays.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it- as Smiles says, no chemicals, etc. A few dog germs won't hurt anything!!

I remember when I was a kid (back in the stone age) if you had a sore that wouldn't heal the old folks would tell you to let the dog lick it. It usually worked.

Look at it this way. We use organic fertilizers like fish emulsion which is basically rotten fish without harming the taste and edibility of the fruit. In fact organics seem to improve the flavor.

Chemicals I would worry about. Dog slobber and algae, not a problem. We make a point when we butcher chickens to pour the blood out around the apple trees. It makes excellent fertilizer. Like Smiles said, the soil helps filter too. It all breaks down into its soluable parts before it is drawn up through the trees roots.

I use left over bath water when I can, and I use the dirty duck water....

Of all things, I think those things help improve our trees. Chemical free I have no worries about at all... good luck!

(Sorry about your rough winter, ours way bad last year... and we had a super hot and strange summer that followed. :( Not a good gardening year for us. )
