Tropical Greenhouse 2014-2015

So Pax because of you I took a good look at my pineapples and have one just starting to bloom. Note the plant is quite tall a bit elongated. That was my clue that it had begun. I give them orchid fertilizer when I think of it.

I used to put them outside in the spring to finish growing. As any farmer knows animals know when fruit and veggies are at their peak of ripeness. I was thinking one day that I would pick my beautiful aromatic pineapple the very next day. The next morning I peaked out at it and there was a giant bite taken out of it. I was tempted to salvage the rest but clear thinking took hold of me. I left it for whomever to finish the job rather than risk some dreaded animal contamination. And it was gone the next day. I cannot even think of what wild animal with a big mouth would have been interested in a tropical fruit here in Massachusetts.
