He likes to swim and hang out in the pond while it is raining.
He won't get to big. He is not a Tortoise.
He is a rescued Florida Box turtle. His shell was all beat up and found stuck in the middle of the road. he could not get over the curb and was hit I think.

Wow,

I guess boxturtles in Florida know how to deal with water and ponds!

Here our Three-toed boxturtles, and the Common Boxturtle may see a puddle if he is lucky!

Now you need a water-type turtle to put in there!

Ron

How many turtles do you have?

I just have 2, Fred the Florida Box and Wilma she is a Central American
wood Turtle.
AKA The Flintstones!

They are both semi terrestrial. Liking both water and land.

I just found this thread,
WOW nice set up, and here I was thinking my Sliders were spoiled LOL.

I take in unwated, over sized Red Eared Sliders and usually have a Sun Turtle or two thats been knocked around by vehicles.

Last Sun Turtle, who is still here and will be released in the spring had a split shell where a vehicle ran over it.
Super glued the shell together and you can hardly tell his inners were exposed, sulfur dips and antibiotics did the trick before the shell healed and 2 moltings took place.

Just last week got in 2 - 3" babys that were left to starve in an apartment.
and 2 9" adults.(5 year olds) that a friends father could no longer care for.

I would love to build them a set up like yours, but the cold winters here make it a summer only habitat.
But then again when I get my larger Green house I can always dedicate a corner to just a turtle habitat.

I can see hubbys face now LOL.

Dear joseph,

I was looking through a box of my old recipes and came across one for turtle pudding.
If you get the time someday you should try it, my turtles love it when I make it and the recipe will make more than enough pudding to last a whole year.

Recipe for Turtle Pudding

Ingredients for approximately 18 pints

1 to 2 lbs high quality gelatin.
"Example Dr. Oetker gelatin powder: 20 treble packs with 9g each"
3.5 lbs trout, complete with intestines and head
1.5 lbs shrimp
1.0 lb mussels
3.5 lbs beef heart
6 eggs
9 small jars of baby food (0.44 lb each)
You can use carrots, spinach, garden vegetables
0.75 lb Chicken or Rabbit Liver
2 tablespoons of vitamins for turtles "Example Jurassi Vite"
2 packages of red food coloring (strawberry red)
2.5 liters tap water
Aluminum trays, preferably 0.5 liter or 1 liter size as sold for Lasagna

Recipe:

Before you get started, you will need two large pots and a meat grinder. The pots should be sized in order to take 12 liters (or 21 pints) each. One pot is needed for the gelatin, the other for the ground meat and other ingredients.

Open all packages of the gelatin and combine with 2.2 liters (3.9 pints) of cold water, stirring continuously. Let the gelatin soak for a minimum of 20 minutes. The meat, fish, shrimp and liver has to be forced through a meat grinder. All other ingredients are added to the meat mix and need to be stirred well. Dissolve the food coloring with 0.3 liter (0.5 pint) of warm water and add to the mixture

Both pots need to get heated carefully to approximately 40 degrees Celsius (102 deg. F) and stirred continuously. A second person comes in handy at that time. Having reached the temperature, the food mix is added to the gelatin under continuous stirring. Afterwards the food mix is poured into the aluminum trays.

Allow everything to cool before transferring the trays into the freezer. If smaller amounts of food are needed, the pudding may be scored with a knife into smaller sections once it has cooled down. This helps to brake the pudding into smaller pieces once it is frozen.

Send me an e-mail and let me know how your turtles like it.
