unrelenting cold and snow, Northeast

We got 13" of wet, heavy snow with Wednesday/Thursday morning's storm. The power and internet were out here for 30 hours. I had to leave the kids inside and hope they didn't get into too much trouble while I shoveled snow for 2 hours (too cold for them to go out and it was up over Savannah's boots anyway). Had to shovel a path out the backdoor so I could get the generator out there and also the driveway so DH could get the car back in. Shoveled a path for the chickens to reach their water. Scared two hens and they flew into the deep snow and got themselves stuck. They just sat there until I came over to rescue them. :D

Savannah's party is canceled for tomorrow since not everyone can get here. It should be nearly melted off by Sunday though.

The kids and I made 3 kinds of snowcream: vanilla with strawberries, vanilla almond with rainbow sprinkles, and lemon slushies. :)

Wow, @journey11, the only thing worse than having to shovel your house out of 13" of snow, is shoveling it while you have to leave the little kids in the house doing God knows what. I'm glad you and the house survived. Then you still had enough energy to make snow cream! My hat is off to you.

Got 6 inches of snow last weekend, but we should finally start losing it today. Yesterday morning it was -4F and the dew had frozen everywhere, so it was also damp AND cold. Today, it's supposed to be 40F. FINALLY! I've kept my horses in their stalls for 3 days bc of the ice. Fortunately, when I let them out, they run the 3 acre north pasture, which is pretty safe bc it's almost all snow.

Our snow is gone! The sun is shining through our uncurtained windows right in our eyes. Welcome sunshine! 36* now, high of 52* and MORE DARN RAIN this afternoon!

Slowly melting out in Philly!

I am so sorry for Savannah, was she very disappointed about the party being canceled ?

She's pretty much unaware at her age. Every day is a party for her. LOL

We're heading over to the Ohio River here in a bit to go sledding off the floodwall instead. This will probably be the last of the snow.

It is 76° today and we put the top down on my husband's little Z3 while we drove to Costco. Even with my visor cap it was hot and I had forgotten to put on sunscreen on my arms.
