How do you make them? I don't see any kind of hoop connectors or base?!

A metal rod. The bottom part is rounded and sits in the large pot on the bottom - start with the bottom pot and add soil and plants then use a smaller sized pot for the second, add soil and plants, repeat.

Did you purchase the metal rod, or was it something you made? Does it seem sturdy? It looks absolutely adorable!

No, it's not complicated at all. I bought it from the company I work for - we buy them from this website - friendshipgarden.com but it doesn't show a picture of just the rod. They are strudy, but last summer we had a bad storm with really high winds and it did blow down. I can get one of our stores to e-mail a pic of just the rod if anyone really wants to see it.
