Water for Cut Flowers

A client just gave me a bouquet from her cutting garden. As I was filling a vase with water, I was wondering what members add to water. Have heard everything from aspirin,sugar to bleach. What do you do when bring cut flowers inside?

I am a bad one to ask. LOL. When I receive a bouquet from a florist it comes with a packet of Floral Fresh. From the garden at home, I just change water often cutting off stem ends that are getting mushy. I will watch this thread to see if there really is a way to keep flowers fresher longer.

As you learn in the answer, vodka is probably better used for other purposes. A few drops of bleach can be problematic. What are a few?

The citric acid and sugar in the soda are good choices. Remember, you can buy citric acid in the canning aisle.
