I am doing about all I can think to do... I may have to succumb to the reality that I live in a desert!!! When it is over 100 for days on end my garden really suffers unless I keep the ground somewhat moist. I suppose it is time to Xeriscape!! What a Bummer!!
PEI Here I come!!!
Sounds like a very reasonable conclusion.

Do you have rain barrels? I know it doesn't rain much, but if you can collect it when it does, it will help. Also, how do you water? Can you switch to a drip system?

I really like the way this rain barrel works and it really fits in with southwest decor :D

When I read this my memory was triggered....by the words "saving water" and "rain barrels". Being older....I feel really lucky to have any memory at all. Anyway.....I found this ...

I am wondering if anything has changed. The height of stupidty in this country is amazing..in fact....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Age_of_Stupid

This was one of the highest grossing films ever in Brittan.....coming to DVD near you at the end of August. Check out Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Age-Stupid-Pete-Postlethwaite/dp/B003JYOFB4

Has anyone ever heard of this film in this country....and why not I ask? It is like the gulf spill.......the smooth quite voice of the announcer says in hypnotic tones...."all...is..well....there ....is...no....more...oil...there...is...nothing....to..see...all...gone....all...is...well...now...sleeeep".

:/

Yes...I admit it. I am a rain water renegade :D Hey...maybe I need that as a title? :D
I am not sure I can do this but I just posted this in another area of TEG. I just found it.

In my city, we are "force" by the city goon squad to keep our lawns green. No we cannot use paint balls.
We live in a high desert area although no one wants to admit that. They disguise us, as an outpost of Hawaii ....er ...is it the Mediterranean. I cannot remember which disguise the city fathers are using this month.

Speaking of water collection... I heard recently that in some places "they" are not allowing rainwater collection. I am hoping it is urban legend.

But then again they are attempting to pass laws saying we can no longer even give people our homegrown products, let alone sell them to each other. As in Senate Bill S510

That is the law in my area. It is not enforced, but it is on the books. They passed a law last year allowing some people to collect rain water in rural areas. As part of getting the law passed, they showed that 90+% of the rainwater that hits the ground EVAPORATES anyway.
