i have AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy on my pc. i run the SpyBot when i get the feeling like something has gotten in like malware which can slow down the pc. AdAware spots any ads that try to imbed themselves onto your PC and only pop up when you get onto certain sites. these have been free products for me but they do like to have a donation for their time & services.

I stick to using FireFox for my browser and noticed a program some time ago called Ghostery that seems to keep down the ads that auto run when i get onto some sites. it also stops me from being redirected when i get onto a known website to something that is malicious if there is a hidden redirect code. also, if you get onto a page that has offensive (or just too many) ads you can block those manually. Ghostery also tells me what spying programs like analytical and tracking stuff is keeping tabs on what i'm viewing to they can send my marketing data to someone who thinks i just might like to buy a new and improved whatchamacallit!

those ads everyone seems to see at the bottom/top and usually after the 1st post on each page i don't get to see on my laptop. on my tablet that's something different since that's running on Google's apps and browser. it makes me sick to know someone from my area was the creator of SPAM. (and i'm not talking the canned meat product :p )

Sorry you're having problems! We definitely don't have any full-page ads or popups, so I agree with others that you may have a virus or something.

Rip off. Can buy new one for another $100.

Depending upon how new your operating system is, can down load WINDOWS DEFENDER from Microsoft web site for free. They do their best to protect window based computers-it's free.

Yup, I totally agree! I'd never spend that kind of money to fix up a computer, especially when you can get a Google Chromebook (what my wife has) for $199 or get a decent BRAND NEW computer / laptop for $300 - $400.

i have AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy on my pc.

I totally agree with this and also running the newest and updated version of your browser (mostly Firefox or Google Chrome... I stay away from IE).

Since JackB suggested installing Ad Blocker Plus, I have not had any problem at all with ads of any kind. Well, the you-tube ads come up before they let you watch the video, but I can x them out after a few seconds.
However, when I opened this thread this morning, at first there were ads at the top and down the side--not full ads, just a box where an ad would be, with the name of it. I guess the ABP took a few seconds to grab the ads, because now they are not there.
Maybe people are confusing viruses with cookies. Just because you have ads show up doesn't necessarily mean it is a virus doing harm to your computer. (This from me, a computer illiterate!) We need malware protection AND ad blockers.

Oh, and I was going to suggest going into your computer's "programs" information and checking to see the programs that have been installed lately---like since the last time you didn't have this problem, say a month ago? If you haven't deliberately installed something, the new installs are probably causing you issues. You can uninstall them. That thing that underlines words, for example. And I had one a while ago that would take over the google search and use a different search engine, which would just go around in circles.

Do you remember when computers were new toys, and when you would try to search for anything, lots of unwanted (porn-type) entries would come up? We had to put in parental controls and such, to prevent those type ads?
It is such a relief to not have to censor everything that comes up for fear the kids will see something inappropriate, but I was wondering if this stuff is being filtered out by google, or some program I am not even aware that I have, or how? Surely all those ads and sites didn't find Jesus and just go away by themselves.
