I PICKED THINGS!!!

The squash are gonna get stuffed with cous-cous (sp??), spinach, sausage & pine nuts for dinner tonight...

A couple of days ago I sprayed my broccoli and cabbage with spinosad, cause the cabbage worms were getting pretty bad. The next day I could see little dead worms on the leaves that I didn't even know were there, before. I guess their color when they are alive is a perfect match for the cole plants. Dead, they take on a different hue. My cabbage is about ready to pick. Better get my kraut smashing stick ready.

I informed DH that the sunflowers were falling over from the water soaked ground. I tried to prop up the asparagus ferns that are falling over. Came in dried off and sat by the FIRE.

You are having a rough season huh? I hope it gets better for you all.:coolsun hope for a dry spell

canesisters I love patty pan squash. good for you!
i'm like bay, I watered. I need to water some more tomorrow.
I did pick few tomatoes & peppers. I had a nice big salad for dinner; tomato, cucumber, red onion, and eggplant. the cucumber was store bought.

I also did some more battling squash bugs.

Yesterday, I got some fertilizer on the spuds. I think that I'm not too late; there isn't a single bloom on any of the plants.

I like to do this and then mulch with compost. That also kills the weeds and I can tell by the weeds that it has been quite awhile since I could easily see and pull them in that bed. I kind of have to thrash around with all this activity but I know the potato plants appreciate it by how they can grow during the next few weeks.

My problem has been find something to mulch them with since I've got so little compost built up so far this season. To find some soil ~~ do you ever stand in the middle of the garden and ask to no one in particular, "Where am I gong to find some dirt?! ~ I cleared the bok choy out of the bed next door. These plants were transplanted out of the hoop house weeks and weeks ago. I still have a few bok choy on the borders of a few other beds with some nice sprouts on them and there are some nice young plants coming along.

I'd like to wait just about 1 week to plant that newly cleared bed with bush beans. The garden usually has so many beans by late summer that I don't want to push too much seed in the ground in June. There is already a bed of bush beans and plenty of pole beans growing. Beans will likely replace the early peas when I can get those harvested. I'm worried I'll be beaned to death in about 8 weeks!

good for you... and yes that sounds like a very delicious dinner

nothing like eating fresh veggies that you have grown....

did till up the garlic bed and planted more cucumber seeds there, was planning on putting the second corn planting there. figured it was not my year for corn thank goodness we have a wonderful farmers market nearby.so we can still can corn for this winter, just not the same.

and as well planted the second attempt on parsnips...

the dw make the best freeze and bread and butter pickles...

We are now having an extremely rare weather event for this time of year here. Two monsoon tropical storms are arriving with warm rain, starting right now.

That will make watering much simpler.
