I got this email from nursery about Paw Paw trees
Hi Alex,
We have straight species, 7-gal 5-6’ $105 - only four in stock; 1-gal $15 (in that range).

We have grafted cultivars, 7-gal 2-3’ $135; 3-gal 2-3’ $59; 1-gal 1-2’ $39

I've never heard that terminology. I'd guess it means grown from seed and not grafted. I don't do paw paw's so I don't know how important that is.

Paw paw trees are very hard to find near me. The ones I have came from ebay. Some nursery workers have never heard of them when I ask.

If that is the case,

you may wish to find out the why for paw paws to be grafted.

Is it for dwarfing purposes? Disease resistance?

There are many different varieties of pawpaw. You might want a specific cultivar. I'm not sure how close to the parent one is form seed, but from a brief look at the internet it doesn't seem to be a horrible way to go.
