What is the Name of This Tomatoe?

Mary, with the black tomatoes go by feel more than looks. if it feels soft, eat it. The first time I grew black tomatoes I let a few rot thinking they were not ready. Boy was I wrong. Those were Japanese Blacks but the same is true for most of the blacks.

The "black" tomato I'm growing this year is the Chocolate Stripes. It's green and orange and follows that same rule. Go by feel more than looks.

Yea, that's what I do Ridgerunner, is to go by feel. I pick my tomatoes 1 or 2 days early because I don't want the critters to get them. Sometimes I see pecks where I think the birds taste them.

Ken, are Cherokee purples very sweet? Will you be able to tell if that's what it is when I cut it?

Yes they are among the sweetest...and yes by cutting it I should be able to tell for sure. Is it an indeterminate?

Ken, I think it's an indeterminate. The nursery where I bought it only carries the usual heirloom tomatoes so it has to be either Black Krim or Cherokee Purple. I've never grown either of those but I will sure be saving seeds from this one. If you can i.d. it for me then I may just buy the plant next year. I'm really not that good with seeds.

Ken, here is the tomatoe sliced. I don't think the slime is bright green at all.
