I think this is a type of Hawthorne, but I'm unsure...
What do you think?

Could be. Leaves look right. Does the tree have thorns on it? Do you know what the flowers looked like? A close-up of the bark might help. How big is it. bush or tree?

You are correct, there are different types of Hawthorne. From what I'm familiar with I think you are right. The type I'm familiar with is beautiful in bloom, just covered with white flowers.

It is a pretty large and bushy tree. I don't have a picture of the bark, but good idea to check!

If it is a hawthorn, the long thorns will indicate the genus. There are many species, so if the tree is growing in the wild, knowing your location would be helpful. If it has been planted, identification could be tough.

It looks like it was planted maybe 50 years ago by the yard.

About a month back, I was trying to identify a hawthorn that is growing near me, and came upon a site that listed the wild species in Wisconsin. There are photos for many of them. Not sure of your location, but who knows, you might find a match there.

Thanks for helping me! I thought I'd attach a couple more pics! I want to eat the berries next year, but want to be sure they are edible first!
