I guess I know nothing of your climate. I am surprised that your ground is not frozen.

• Seattle (Puyallup is just a few miles south),
• Portland Oregon,
• San Antonio Texas, and
• Charleston South Carolina.

For me, that indicates how those zones have very, very little to do with the growing seasons.

Right, they are hardiness zones - for winter extreme temperatures. They don't have anything to do with precipitation, hours of daylight, summer temperatures, none of that.

I'm planting bulbs in Medford OR now. Some that I planted last December are now coming up, altho they were covered with snow for three days last week!

It’s been frozen in the mornings but not in the afternoon that’s when I planted
