I'm thinking of moving to Evanston WY and I was wondering what gardeners in that region grow well?

Wow, Evanston is about 7000 feet yeah? I don't have an answer for you, but there is an article in the latest Countryside & Small Stock Journal by a man who built a garden in Wyoming. Maybe not the same challenges that you'll face, he's in Cheyenne at about 6000 feet.
It's an interesting read tho'.

How similar might that be to Cache Valley in Utah?

Lots of veggies can be grown there and (according to the map) it isn't terribly far away.

Uh, oh! The Weather Service shows that Evanston has only 78 days frost free! (Whenever I get a little dismayed about the climate around here, I look at Wyoming .)

You would be jumping out of the frying pan into the icebox, Angel.

Steve

ETA: By comparison, Angel, Cheyenne has a 137 day frost free season.

If you could be sure to cover everything at night you might do ok. The red desert causes daytime temps to soar, and nitetime temps to plummet. So, you'd have enough warm days to get growth, but you'd have to defend against all those frosty nights. I used to live 1.5 hours from Evanston. its a nice town, went thru there a lot.
