It seems every so often a year comes along when roses go absolutely insane with blooms. This has been one of those years in New York. I am not sure if it is the weather or just a cycle the plants go through.

Cat,
That is a good point, perhaps the plants are celebrating the end of the horrible winter. They have been going full speed ahead for weeks now.

I wonder about the cycle also. Last year every one of mine exploded with blooms. Like most everyone though, we had a real hard winter. My yellow knockout bounced back great, but red, peach, and Bonica had to be cut back hard, thought I might even lose Bonica! But they are coming around, about 3 weeks later than normal.
Oddly, my miniature rose and (badly neglected) pink climber came through better than some average winters.
I am dead serious about the cycle. Last year this miniature rose had hardly a bloom; this year it is covered with blooms, and there are more immature buds than you could possibly count.
