yellow tomatoes!?!

we harvested last year's seed and purchased seed this year for brandywine tomatoes and john baer tomatoes. the tomatoes that have come up are all yellow! not what we ordered - anyone know why? someone on another topic mentioned cross pollination for seeds from last year. we are in se michigan and our weather has been dry-dry-dry, so we are also dealing with blossom end rot and fewer tomatoes, but i don't think weather has anything to do with a plant's complete harvest.

Actually the weather can have a big effect on how vegetables mature and ripen. Here in Colorado we were very hot (over 90 degrees for 25 days in a row) in July and into early August and that has delayed ripening of tomatoes. Now high temps during the day are much lower than normal and tomatoes are very slow to ripen this year. You also said it was dry, dry, dry this year. Things that happened months ago can and will have an effect on the final product. Wait to pick them as long as you before the first and you can ripen underripe tomatoes by wrapping them in newspaper and put them in a box. Good Luck!
