We are due for our first freeze this evening. This year is my first fall garden. Will my cabbages, broccoli and tomatoes be ok? Should I cover them? Should I go ahead and harvest my tomatoes even though they are still green? BTW we are in the Dallas, Tx area. Thanks for any advice!
Hoodat, I was thinking along those lines, but don't know of a caterpillar that munches the petals instead of the leaves. Not a neighbor or a child, it's in a rather secluded spot. Just waiting for them to go after my second basket.
Only thing is that these are in a wicker basket hanging on a fence. I can't see a rabbit getting up there. Would a squirrel eat them? Or an anole? We have lots of them around. Birds?
nicholsgardennursery.com has a greens mixture to plant for chickens. It's listed in their catalog as chicken scratch. I'm going to order the seeds and see how it goes. :)
I have some tomato seeds from my current crop of tomatoes. They have been very good and healthy. Can I go ahead and plant these seeds now, or do I have to wait and dry them out? I'd love to go ahead and start them again right now . . .
Giada de Laurentis has a marinade for steak on skewers with tomatoes. The marinade is definitely parsley based, and it's terrific. It's in her book called Giada at home, and you can surely find it on foodnetwork.com It's a delicious marinade!
I'm in the Dallas area. My family loves cilantro. I had a very nice plant from seed in early spring, but it's gone now. I bought two more plants from the garden store, but they aren't doing well. I wonder if it's just too hot here now. I also wonder if I could grow it inside the house?
